A great collection of recipes from simple meals to banquets.
Enjoying food with friends or family can be a great joy. A conversation over a meal is one of the nicest ways to spend time with people you care about. In our Dinner Party Menu section we have set out complete meals with a balance of flavours and colours that are not overly difficult to prepare. All the recipe groups in this section have been thoroughly tested. The Dinner Party Menus are located in the categories...
Fabulous Recipes is an assortment of recipes sourced from private books and recipe collections from around the country. Many of the recipes are very old, and many of the old favourites are included.
The pastry recipes in the Pies, Biscuits, and Desserts categories, and a couple in the Pasta category were donated by the daughter of pastry chef Harry B, who ran a cake and pastry business in Carlton in the 1960′s and 1970s. Although Harry’s speciality was pies and pastries, his recipes also included cakes, biscuits, and some of the sweet breads like cinnamon buns and coffee scrolls. We are fortunate to have some of Harry’s recipes.
The Dinner Party Menu is a collection of recipes set out in complete meals. The recipes are a balance of flavours and colours, and most are not overly difficult to prepare. The recipes in the dinner party menu are all tried and tested. They were collected and devised by our dinner party expert.
The Appetisers category is full of easy recipes. Some can be adapted to suit your own taste. There are recipes for Devilled Eggs, lots of Dips, Pizzas, Tacos, Chicken Wings, and lots of other party snack recipes too. Great for party or picnic snacks.
Baking bread can be very satisfying. We have many recipes in the bread section, and some sweet bread recipes like Hot Cross Buns as well. We have made Hot Cross Buns using the recipe in the bread section, and the taste and texture is perfect every time. Mashed potato is an unexpected ingredient in some breads. Boston buns have mashed potato as an ingredient as do some doughnut recipes. Our Doughnut recipe is brilliant.
The cake recipe section is extensive. Many cake recipes have similar ingredients and methods. Once you get into the swing of baking cakes there are no limits. We have a brilliant recipe for Fruitcake. It takes a bit of effort but it works every time and always tastes great
Casseroles are great for winter. They are good also because the leftovers can be used for a meal or for a base for another recipe. Some of the recipes in the casserole section could easily be adapted for use in a slow cooker or stew: and a lot of casseroles freeze well too. The search tool is a great way to find the recipe you are looking for.
The desserts category is also full of tasty recipes. There are old standards as well as the very latest. There is a recipe for every personal taste.
The pasta collection is growing, and has several recipes for making your own. There is nothing like fresh pasta and it is so easy to prepare. Fresh pasta cooks very quickly and has a much lower GI. With a pasta recipe and a small pasta machine, you can easily make ravioli with your own choice of filling, or spaghetti or pasta sheets for Lasagne.
Although puddings are really desserts, we made puddings a category of its own because we had so many Pudding recipes. Pudding are great as they can be made in advance for a dinner, or just kept in a refrigerator for another time. Puddings with brandy often keep well not refrigerated. Our favourite pudding is this one:
Easy Boiled Fruit Pudding it contains no sugar, butter, eggs, or flour. It is easy to make and there is nothing to go wrong. It is from a recipe collection from the early 1900′s and turns out perfectly every time.
Salads can be made quickly and easily. There are plenty of ideas in the salad section and they are easily adapted to suit your own taste. Salads can be a meal by themselves or a side dish to another type of food. Salads are great for barbecues or picnics.
The soup section has a collection of popular recipes, and we have many more recipes to come. You can find soups using the search facility. Casseroles and stew recipes can sometimes be a bit similar. Many soups and stews can be adapted for use in a slow cooker. Many Casseroles freeze well and leftover liquid can be saved and used as a base for another casserole recipe.
Stir Fry is the quickest type of cooking of all. Busy people can prepare a nourishing meal in a few minutes, and there is very little cleanup afterwards. We have many recipe ideas here and we are adding more every day.
Our vegetable section is extensive and growing. We have several recipes for scalloped potatoes, mushrooms, and noodles. There are vegetarian recipes and more of those to come. Vegetables can be a meal by themselves and there are many recipes here to give you ideas.
